Lil Wayne is a very popular American rapper he real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Junior. He grew up an only child now has a younger brother in the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden Holly grove neighbourhood of New Orleans in the USA. At the age of 16, his stepfather Reginald "Rabbit" Carter died.

His freestyling abilities impressed the Williams brothers, but they didn't sign him at first. 11-year old Wayne started to record freestyles on Baby's answering machine and haunted Cash Money offices nearly every day. When Baby saw so much engagement in the young rapper, he soon signed him and hooked up with another newcomer Lil Doogie to form The B.G.'z. The group released their first and only album, True Story in 1995.

Birdman Addresses Lil Wayne Broken Jaw RUmors

With a rumour spreading around the ‘internet’ like wildfire concerning the possibility of Lil Wayne getting beat up by a member of Gille Da Kid’s entourage, we decided to try and get to the bottom of this Cash Money Mystery. Since it was Gillie’s camp that leaked this latest bone-breaking gossip, we wanted to give Cash Money a chance to respond, and that they did with none other than Baby himself phoning in to Complex HQ and setting the record straight.

To quickly get you up to speed on this latest Hip Hop hullabaloo, Mary Bowling of J&M Entertainment and publicist for Gille Da Kid, put out a press release stating that Lil Wayne’s jaw was broken by one of Gille’s boys at a tour stop a couple weeks ago, a claim The Birdman vehemently denies, “That’s false, I don’t see the nigga, and if you don’t get money I don’t see you. Niggas be trying to do sh*t to get their name out. No truth to no sh*t like that.” He confidently scoffed at Bowlin’s claim saying that Gille or his people posed no threat to any of the Cash Money Millionaires whatsoever. “A man is a man. He’s a bi*ch nigga. His mouth is like an ass, anything will come out of it.”

Baby goes on to explain that Gille is just popping sh*t off for attention when we asked why he’d bother even circulating a rumor like that, “Nigga be trying to do sh*t to get their name out. He did it for notoriety, it’s been like that since he picked up a microphone. If you don’t know how to get money, you’re going to be a nigga like him, these niggas don’t want this, they don’t want no blood!”

We then asked the Birdman about Gille’s claim of ghostwriting Wayne’s lyrics for the “Carter 1,” a rumor which he also quickly dispelled: “None of that is true homie. Real men do real things. Know what I’m saying? Those niggas can’t write that.”

Gille wasn’t the only artist to feel the wrath of Cash Money. Referring to the backlash from the comments Weezy made in our Dec/Jan issue about Jay-Z, Pharrell, and The Clipse that created a firestorm still burning across various media landscapes to this day, Baby stood his ground and backed up his potna, “If a nigga feels a certain way, fu*k ‘em. Where we come from living is like a threat. We’re not tripping on anything. I come from controversy that’s been our whole life. We ain’t tripping on petty sh*t.”

Amidst the tough-talk, Baby made it clear to us that his main focus for Cash-Money is stacking paper and doing it for the fans, “My little homie is the hottest in the game, we’re celebrating our 10th year anniversary, trying to break new artists, we chase money, we just do entertainment.” He adds, “We’re just trying to give the world good music.”

THE endless party that is Paris Hilton's lifestyle was gatecrashed by the law today as the socialite was sentenced to 45 days in prison for a parole violation.

The millionaire heiress to the Hilton hotel empire looked close to tears as she wailed, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" just moments before receiving her sentence at downtown Los Angeles' Metropolitan Court.

Paris' parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, looked visibly upset as the sentence was handed down to their daughter, one of the world's most photographed and famous women.

Hilton's parole violation conviction came after she was caught driving on a suspended licence in February following her no contest plea to drink-driving.

Prosecutors had warned yesterday they would seek a jail sentence for the blonde style icon but it did not deter Hilton from testing the patience of the court by turning up for her hearing at least 15 minutes late.

Soberly dressed in a dark suit with a white blouse, with her blonde hair swept back in a pony tail, Hilton did not comment as she arrived, running a gauntlet of at least 60 paparazzi and reporters.

Builders on a construction site opposite the courthouse shouted "Jail time!" to dozens of television crews and photographers who ringed the building in downtown Los Angeles.

Satellite television trucks crowded side streets and local news crews hovered overhead in helicopters, completing a surreal scene at the court, which normally deals with minor traffic violations.

Prosecutors told the court Hilton had been stopped on January 15 by California Highway Patrol and told she was not allowed to be driving.

On that occasion, Hilton signed a police statement acknowledging she was not supposed to drive and she was let off with an informal warning.

But just over a month later she was hauled over again in Hollywood when spotted driving her $US190,000 ($231,045) Bentley Continental GTC at night with its headlights off.

Hilton's spokesman said his client was unaware she was violating her parole - but prosecutors dismissed that line of argument, citing the earlier brush with traffic police in January.

Hilton had lost her licence for alcohol-related reckless driving and was given 36 months probation.

The charges stemmed from her September 7 arrest after she was found driving her Mercedes with an alcohol level equal to the legal limit.

Court documents described her decision to repeatedly keep driving as a "flagrant" violation of court orders and demanded she be given a custodial sentence.

They also alleged Hilton failed to enrol in an alcohol education program within 21 days of the order directing her to do so.

A favourite target for tabloid gossip and the paparazzi, Hilton appeared in the reality television series The Simple Life and in 2003 an unauthorised sex video with her former boyfriend appeared on the internet.

She ventured into music last year with a debut album and has had cameo roles in a handful of films, including the 2005 horror film House of Wax.

Hahaha PHEW! That SMS was a false alarm. One of my mates that I'd told about the stalker sms'd me from his other mate's phone to freak me out, and his GF thought that was horrible and made him fess up.

turns out that it wasn't a prank or anything, it really was some crazed bitch, who's called me and harrassed me and whatever since I last posted... argh I can't be arsed typing it all out right now, but promise I will within the next few days.

Mate I don't know what to say... I've now had countless letters and cards left for me, all of them asking for my body for money and other crazy things. One card even had 10 bucks in it - woohoo, paid for my parking at work for the day.

The letters have also steadily gotten more and more warped too. She has written things like "One positive thing I do is donate blood" in them, and actually makes constant reference to the fact that she gives blood. My mates reckon that's her way of trying to tell me that she doesn't have AIDS. Great, huh?

Shit guys, I dunno what to say... pretty much all of my friends, even those that though it was fcucking funny at the start have told me to go to the cops now, due to the constant phonecalls at work, letters etc. and how weird they are getting.

She has also been asking about my girlfriend when she calls and a few staff members from work have said that she has approached them and asked her about my girlfriend before, which makes me seriously concerned about the safety of my girlfriend. It might be nothing, but I'm scared that she'd hurt my girlfriend or something, this chick seems more than a bit unhinged, she wanted to know if my girlfriend worked with me, when she'd be in etc. Thankfully the other staff members have had the sense to tell her when she has approaced them and asked them these things that they are not allowed to discuss these things with members of the public. My girlfriend doesn't work with me, thankfully, but I still have a considerable concern for her safety...

Eddie Murphy seems to have an ego bigger than...well..The Nutty Professor.
Unless you have spent the last week living under a rock, you will know that the annual festival of glam, glitter, bitchiness and oversized egos, otherwise known as the Oscars took place this week, and Eddie Murphy made a down and out fool of himself, so bad infact that even the biggest of hollywood egos had trouble comprehending what they had just witnessed. The moment came when the award for Best Actor In A Supporting Role was to be announced. While Eddie Murphy was a clear favourite to win, the field was strong. With Djimon Hounsou nominated for his powerful role in Blood Diamond, Mark Wahlberg for his role in The Departed, and Alan Arkin nominated for his role as the quirky grandfather in Little Miss Sunshine, it was always going to be a tough one to pick. However obviously Eddie Murphy had already made up his mind who should win the award. When Alan Arkin was announced as winner, Eddie Murphy and girlfriend Tracey Edmonds stood up and stormed out of the ceremony....much to the shock of onlookers. In the fallout, Eddie Murphy has quite rightly been labelled a sore loser. So angry was Murphy that he didnt even stick around to see fellow Dream Girls co-star Jennifer Hudson pick up her award for Best Supporting Actress. Perhaps Eddie Murphy needs a reality check. Lets face facts. Murphys career has been up the creek without a paddle for several years...perhaps from all they way back to the Beverley Hills Cop series of films. While Murphy has occasionally shown small glimours of hope, for example The Nutty Professor, his career has hardly been stellar for most of the nineties or naughties. Eddie Murphy, you are a downright ****wit of golden proportions. Shame on you.

Whether her music is good or not is always going to be an endless debate. However when it comes to the worlds most insightful people, its fair to say that Avril Lavigne is hardly at the top of the pile. And she once again showed this week why that is the case. With Britney Spears seemingly losing control of herself, music bible Rolling Stone decided to start asking Britneys peers for their thoughts on the life of being a pop star and the challenges it comes with. When asked for a comment on the current situation of Britney, Avril once again dished out a pearl of wisdom.

Word coming out from those in the know at the Melbourne International Motorshow is, that unless you are happy to pay a rediculously expensive entry fee to see what amounts to nothing more than an oversized showroom, this years show is set to be a dissapointment. Insiders have commented that there is very little this year in the way of drawcards. Perhaps the biggest disappointment will be the stand belonging to Honda. The highlight of Hondas display this year is said to be the environmentally friendly FCV, which many agree looks hideous, and the all new CRV. Now when it comes to light to medium sized All Wheel Drive vehicles, the CRV is a damn fine car. But its hardly the pinnacle of motoring excitement. If you are looking for something a little more exciting to have a look at, the Sixty Years Of Ferarri display at the Crown Attrium is said to be a highlight...and best of all...ITS FREE!!!

Ok, so you are probably asking who the **** is Michelle Anderson. Michelle is a staff member and sometimes on air presenter at Melbournes Nova 100 FM who has quite an interesting achievement under her belt, and we though it was worthy of a mention. Anderson can sometimes be seen out on the road with the Nova ambulances and promotional vehicles where she does broadcasts on location. Anderson despite being at the station for little more than 3 years, has managed to crash the Nova promotional vehicles a record 7 times in her time at Nova. Not a bad effort at all. Our final word this week goes to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Despite the fact that the Brit Awards, Englands very own version of the Grammy Awards, were held more than 2 weeks ago, word only just got out this week of the bizarre antics of the Chilli Peppers. The band would only enter their dressing room if all 3 sided objects were removed from the room. As a result, staff had to scour every corner of the room to ensure that no 3 sided objects were inside the room. After clearing the room, one very observant staff member noticed that a plate of sandwiches made up for the band members were cut into...yes you guessed it....triangles. The staff member quickly removed the sandwiches and the band entered oblivious to their existance. We think perhaps the Chilli Peppers oughta focus on doing something they havent done for many years......release a half decent album.

Talking over a drink in a hotel lobby, he and a friend dreamed up DesignTheTime, a website with the limitless ambition of charting 'the history of mankind' moment by moment.

Last week the site announced it had won 50m to develop its idea - a historical 'timeline' split into minutes, each of which can be bought by users to post memorable moments in their lives, for example by uploading video footage of a child's birthday or favourite pop concert. Its backers, Bright Station Ventures, were 'blown away' by the concept. Microsoft said: 'We believe DesignTheTime has the potential to be the next YouTube or Skype.' Such grand claims are commonplace in America's Silicon Valley. What makes Whitfield's venture remarkable is that it was born in Britain.

The UK's reputation as something of a backwater in the world of the web is out of date. Today The Observer reveals some of the brightest stars of this new generation, from the teenager who made a million dollars from his bedroom to the businesswoman revolutionising mobile text messaging, from the brother-and-sister team creating online social networks linked to real places to the Leeds man who started his first website at 14 and is now pioneering software to protect children. None is older than 30, all are shaping the future.

This generation of entrepreneurs is taking on, and sometimes beating, the Americans at their own game. The UK software economy is worth around 20bn, with Microsoft a huge investor. Millions are being poured into internet start-ups with a flamboyance once seen only in California, and some US venture capitalists have opened offices here for the purpose of making money. Experts say that economic and cultural changes - including TV programmes such as Dragons' Den and The Apprentice - have made entrepreneurship a fashionable career choice for young people, promising to slow the brain drain and revive Britain's pride in innovation.

But, unlike the first UK internet boom a decade ago led by Martha Lane Fox's online travel firm Lastminute.com, large-scale financial backing is not essential to get started: the spread of broadband access and the diminishing price of hardware make it possible to set up and run a virtual company from a bedroom or coffee shop. The next wave of would-be dotcom millionaires includes teenagers, university dropouts and a former Butlins redcoat. All they need is a big idea.

Whitfield, studying for a PhD in biochemistry at Oxford, spends his days researching vaccines for HIV and hepatitis C. Late at night, over eight months, he was hunched over a computer screen programming software for DesignTheTime. Eventually it wowed the judges at the university's own version of Dragons' Den. Whitfield and his two co-founders are from Germany, but will move to Britain permanently. 'Britain is very friendly for building up ventures like this,' he said. 'In Germany it's much more bureaucratic.'

Dan Wagner, a partner at Bright Station Ventures, said: 'Momentum is now gathering in this country. The fact we watch Dragons' Den on TV is illustrative of a change, and now if you ask young students what they want to do, it's start a business. They need the right funding to make their dream a reality, but the infrastructure is not there - yet.'

The poster boy of internet dreamers is Alex Tew, 22, who hit the jackpot in 2005 with his website Million Dollar Homepage. With a debt of £4,000 and more to come at university, one night Tew wrote, 'How can I become a millionaire?' on a piece of paper and began brainstorming. 'It needed to be ambitious, have a good name, grab attention, be directly about money and so simple I could build it in a couple of days,' he recalled. 'I needed a million of something to sell and I didn't have a million of anything, then pixels [the simplest graphical unit on a computer screen] came to mind. It was a lightbulb moment.'

Tew set up a website to sell advertising space in the form of a million pixels at $1 each. He borrowed £500 from family and friends to put out publicity which gained coverage from the BBC and snowballed: 'It became a self-fulfilling prophecy. People were in disbelief because I was making money for effectively nothing, and the very fact they talked about it was the reason it did well.' He made £500,000.

Tew, from Swindon, Wiltshire, said there are now opportunities that were unthinkable in the Nineties. 'It's so cheap these days for an internet start-up. Everyone has broadband, so the internet is a lot more appealing. Sites like MySpace and YouTube could not have existed five years ago in their current form.'

The self-confident can-do enthusiasm of Silicon Valley is now audible in the buzz of Second Chance Tuesday, a networking event in central London where hi-tech entrepreneurs, investors and visitors from the likes of eBay and Google swap ideas and business cards. The first, a year ago, was organised in 10 days with little publicity yet attracted 400 applicants; it is now invariably over-subscribed several times.

Co-organiser Judith Clegg said: 'We have businesses such as Bebo [a social networking site] and Skype [internet telephony] getting international recognition, and people all over the world are looking to London as a creative hub.'

A winning website can take just one person, a laptop and a killer concept that harnesses content generated by its users, a characteristic of so-called 'Web 2.0'. But fully fledged businesses, particularly those involving complex technology, still require initial support from venture capitalists or 'angel investors', individuals who back schemes without an aggressive profit-at-all-costs motivation. When Christina Domecq, a member of the Allied Domecq wine and spirits family, wanted to set up a hi-tech company she did not choose Spain, where she was born, or America, where she grew up. She came to Britain.

Domecq co-founded SpinVox - which turns mobile voicemails into text messages, and voice calls into internet blogs - and raised £25m from angel investors. Her staff has grown from 30 to 165 in the past year and SpinVox expects its six millionth user in 2007. 'I've found the UK amazingly welcoming,' said Domecq, 30. 'There's great opportunity for innovation and real breadth of experience here.'

Just as Stanford University is a powerhouse at the heart of Silicon Valley UK, so Oxford, Cambridge and London universities such as Imperial College are fuelling the UK surge. Venture capital investment in London, the east and south-east was £923m in 2005. But Bob Goodson, co-founder and chairman of the student society Oxford Entrepreneurs, warned that Britain still has some way to go - Silicon Valley investments for 2005 totalled £4.2bn.

'In the US, angel investors invest in people and markets at an early stage,' said the 26-year-old, now working for a social networking start-up in California. 'That concept does not seem to be prevalent in the UK, where it's more "Show me the business plan and exactly how I'm going to get my money back, times 10." That's all very well in a solid established industry, but when you're doing something for the first time you can't know everything in advance. You have to be nimble.'

Nevertheless, there is a sense of growing confidence and energy in digital Britain. Time and again, the most important ingredient has been a winning idea - and Britain's twentysomethings appear to be rich in those.

But Bob Goodson, co-founder and chairman of the student society Oxford Entrepreneurs, warned that Britain still has some way to go - Silicon Valley investments for 2005 totalled £4.2bn.

'In the US, angel investors invest in people and markets at an early stage,' said the 26-year-old, now working for a social networking start-up in California. 'That concept does not seem to be prevalent in the UK, where it's more "Show me the business plan and exactly how I'm going to get my money back, times 10." That's all very well in a solid established industry, but when you're doing something for the first time you can't know everything in advance. You have to be nimble.'

Nevertheless, there is a sense of growing confidence and energy in digital Britain. Time and again, the most important ingredient has been a winning idea - and Britain's twentysomethings appear to be rich in those.

And finally, a special mention to Anthony Patounas, 36, from Oakleigh for providing one of the lamest excuses for having a drugs laboratory in his house, ever heard by man. Patounas has been remanded in custody after a Police raid yesterday discovered a large and sophisticated methanphetamines laboratory operating within a shop in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh. Police were initially tipped off from a member of the public who became suspicious of a strange smell coming from the shop. When Police raided the premises, they found Patounas inside smoking a cigarette, while equipment used to make such drugs as Speed and Ice operated only metres away. Police said the equipment and other supplies were of a large and sophisticated quantity, capable of making commercial quantities of the deadly drugs.

While facing court yesterday Patounas claimed that the Police were exxagerating the charges against him, and that the drugs he was making were for personal use, and helped him bring the best out of his voice while he engaged in his passion for singing opera. Umm... RIIIGGGHHT!!!!

Kanye West is generally regard as one of the leading figures in Hip Hop at the moment, however he is also known for his tendancy to say things that raise eyebrows. This week was no exception. West was talking to MTV straight after the conclusion of the Grammy Awards last week when he made a comment that not only had the Dixie Chicks a little disappointed, but also had the rest of the world in fits of laughter.

When asked for his opinion of the Grammys ceremony, West didnt exactly hold back.

"The winners for Record Of The Year really show how predictable and irellevent the Grammy Awards have become. I mean, who are these Chicks With Dicks anyway?" West asked.

In September last year, Germaine Greer had the honour of recieving a Friday ****wit award for her heartless comments about Steve Irwins death from a Stingray attack. For those of you who dont remember, Greer commented that the Stingray attack was nature taking revenge against Irwin for all the times he has harrassed and disturbed animals for the purpose of making entertainment. Well, it seems that no amount of bad publicity will stop this pathetic waste of space from opening her bitter mouth. Last week the National Portrait Gallery of Australia removed Germaine Greers photo from its walls and replaced it with a portrait of Steve Irwin. The Portrait Gallery has placed Irwin on the wall as part of a collection of portraits of iconic Australians. While the gallery has stated that the decision to replace Greer of all people with Irwin, considering past events, is purely co-incidental, the move has seen many theories bandied about, even a suggestion that Irwin was taking revenge against Greer from heaven.

However, clearly upset by the fact that her photo has been removed, Greer used the situation to attack the portrait of Irwin. She commented that the photo of Irwin made him look feminine, unmanly and weak. While her comments this time didnt upset people as much as those she made back in September, it once again proved that Greer is nothing more than a bitter old cow with absolutly nothing of any relevance to say.

Webbed feet run in Stumpy's family, but he's the first to have four of them.

A rare mutation has left the eight-day-old duckling with two nearly full-sized legs behind the two he runs on. Nicky Janaway, a duck farmer in New Forest, Hampshire, 95 miles (150 kilometers) southwest of London, unveiled the duckling to reporters on Saturday.

"It was absolutely bizarre. I was thinking 'he's got too many legs' and I kept counting 'one, two, three, four,"' Janaway said.

Stumpy would probably not survive in the wild, but Janaway, who runs the Warrawee Duck Farm in New Forest says he is doing well.

"He's eating and surviving so far and he is running about with those extra legs acting like stabilizers," Janaway said.

The mutation is rare, but cases have been recorded across the world. One duckling named Jake was born in Queensland, Australia, in 2002 with four legs but died soon after.

By now, everyone knows what MySpace is .... or at least, they think they do. The generally held assumption is that MySpace is a social networking site: "a place for friends," as their slogan puts it. In reality, MySpace is the next generation of marketing, advertising and promotion, exquisitely disguised as social networking. Simply put, MySpace.com is Spam 2.0.

Spam in Sheep's Clothing

On July 11th, 2006, Hitwise reported that MySpace had "surpassed Yahoo! Mail as the most visited domain on the Internet for US Internet users." Clearly, MySpace has become almost ubiquitous--everyone and their mom have a profile up, from the fourteen-year old girl next door to Madonna. Tom Anderson himself--one of the site's founders and every MySpace user's number one "friend"--has over 109 million pals with profiles, and that's just today; by next week that number could easily have increased by millions. What's interesting is that most users don't know that Tom Anderson is more of a PR scheme than anything else--the mascot designed to give a friendlier feel to a site created by a marketing company known for viral entertainment websites, pop-up advertising, spam, spyware, and adware.

Most users believe that MySpace started as some kind of fluke--a happy accident that began in Anderson's bedroom or garage--and many still don't wonder, know, or care about the site's real business history and model. Heralded as a haven of DIY self-expression, MySpace was actually created by executives whose backgrounds are anchored in spam and mass marketing, and who are tied to investment scandals. With his almost alternateen good looks, Tom Anderson has served as an exceptionally convincing distraction. The PR campaign is one of MySpace's two strokes of genius, brilliant, but not groundbreaking.

The real genius of MySpace lies in it's re-imagining and repackaging of spam. While most internet users expend time and energy attempting to keep it out, MySpace is spam that they actually invite in.

Ancient History

Internet spam originated as classic, straight-up, unwelcome, in-your-face-and-inbox advertising and marketing. At its worst, it comes from "Nigerian Bankers" and swindlers peddling Viagra, and more likely than not, this early incarnation of spam--we'll call it Spam 1.0--is lurking in your inbox right now. eUniverse, the company that essentially created MySpace, was a pioneer in this field. Headed by CEO, founder, and Chairman Brad Greenspan, eUniverse (now Intermix Media), was a multimillion-dollar marketing and entertainment company known for sites like Skilljam.com, pop-up advertising, unsolicited mass emails, spyware, and the adware behind controversial peer-to-peer file sharing network Kazaa.

Also essential to the creation of MySpace is current CEO Chris DeWolfe, who from October 1999 through March 2001 acted as the VP of Sales and Marketing at Xdrive Technologies, Inc., a company that offered millions of users large amounts of free online storage during the dot-com bubble. The business of "free," while not necessarily a lucrative enterprise for an online file storage company, would prove to be an essential building block of Spam 2.0 and MySpace. As a source close to DeWolfe at Xdrive put it, "DeWolfe learned that people will sign up for almost anything that they find useful, and they could care less about the fine print."

Xdrive hit hard times when the dot-com bubble burst, and in March of 2001, DeWolfe was laid off along with his entire marketing department. He quickly set up a new email marketing firm named ResponseBase. DeWolfe recruited and hired most of Xdrive's former marketing team for this endeavor--specifically, the employees who had been responsible for the production of Xdrive's email-based newsletter called "Intelligent X." At its peak at Xdrive, 8 million users subscribed to "Intelligent X."

Tom Anderson, the eventual face of MySpace. was originally hired as a copyeditor in DeWolfe's marketing department at Xdrive, and accompanied DeWolfe to ResponseBase when Xdrive laid them both off.

DeWolfe's new company, ResponseBase, was purchased by eUniverse on September 9, 2002. At the time of the purchase, ResponseBase had upwards of 30 million e-mail addresses at their disposal. This partnering of ResponseBase and eUniverse was the moment of inception for MySpace, although at the time neither DeWolfe nor Greenspan knew what path they were on, and the actual, conscious conjuring of it wouldn't happen until later.

In terms of future visibility and pseudo-celebrity status--Tom Anderson, the friendly face of MySpace and every member's number one "friend" stayed with DeWolfe at eUniverse.

Also of interest, the acquisition of ResponseBase by eUniverse involved a finance partnership, TTMM, LP., consisting of Andrew Wiederhorn and his wife Tiffany. Wiederhorn was a high school classmate and past business associate of DeWolfe's, and in the late 90s DeWolfe was VP of Marketing at First Bank of Beverly Hills, a co. of WFSG purchased by Wiederhorn's former company Wilshire Financial Services Group. In late 2002, DeWolfe joined Fog Cutter Capital Group, Wiederhorn's new investment operation. At this time, Wiederhorn was under legal investigation for his activities with Wilshire Financial Services Group, and as of August 2004, Wiederhorn began an 18-month jail sentence for felony charges. Despite Wiederhorn's predicament, he kept a seat on the board. Donald Berchtold, Tiffany's stepfather, was temporary CEO while Wiederhorn was in jail. The investment group put Wiederhorn on a "leave of absence" and paid him an annual salary of $350,000 while he sat in federal prison. FCCG had a 3-year contract with Wiederhorn starting in 2003 wih an annual salary or $350,000 plus bonus. Ultimately, Wiederhorn served only 13 months in jail and upon his release, after completing mandatory work program, he received a $2 million bonus to cover restitutions from Fog Cutter Capital Group and resumed his duties as chief executive.

DeWolfe left Fog Cutter Capital Group just a few months before Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation purchased MySpace.

Recent History

The MySpace that we know was conceived about a year after the 2002 launch of Friendster. Preceded and influenced by Ryze, a social networking site which focused on business, Friendster offered a new twist: the site connected people through networks of friends for the specific purpose of dating and making new friends.

In August of 2003, Brad Greenspan received and accepted an invitation to join Friendster from Chris DeWolfe, who had been a member since June 2003. Once Chris DeWolfe, Tom Anderson, and other eUniverse employees had all set up Friendster accounts, the ball was rolling. Recognizing the potential of the Friendster concept, a plan was hatched to quickly mimic the appealing features of the site, re-brand it as MySpace, and then out-market them using eUniverse's resources. According to internal emails and documents provided by Brad Greenspan and sent between eUniverse executives and the team at MySpace, DeWolfe's squad worked fast: MySpace 1.0 was ready within ten days. As part of the internal testing and promotion of the site, the company held a contest to see who could sign up the most people. The hope was that if all 250 eUniverse employees brought on 10 friends, they would have a starting user base of 2,500. Even self-proclaimed loner Tom Anderson took part, stating in an email, "I am as anti-social as they come, and I've already got 20 people to sign up."

So it happened that MySpace essentially blossomed into Spam 2.0 out of seeds planted by DeWolfe during his Spam 1.0 days. eUniverse's business was booming when MySpace launched, so in retrospect it's almost endearing to learn how tentatively they tested and promoted the site. Considering the resources of connectivity that the project started with, MySpace was arguably assured a strong launch. At that point, eUniverse had over 50 million email addresses in their database, as well as over 18 million monthly web users. Originally, DeWolfe's business model was intent on selling accounts to MySpace, but it was Greenspan who proposed to keep MySpace free and to make profit through advertising. Greenspan and eUniverse even cannibalized valuable existing websites they owned, such as their paid dating service, CupidJunction--a top dating website with over 3 million users. Members at CupidJunction were encouraged to set up free MySpace accounts. Unfortunately, Greenspan was forced out of the company soon after MySpace's launch.

With the site quickly gaining popularity, and Greenspan no longer providing integral direction, DeWolfe and the MySpace team moved to create a false PR story that would best reflect the ideals and tastes of its growing demographic. They wanted to prevent the revelation that a Spam 1.0 company had launched the site, and created the impression that Tom Anderson created the site, and the lie worked.

The venture, of course, turned out to be a huge success. MySpace has spawned an incredibly successful twist on the age-old art of self-promotion, allowing--even encouraging--the marketing of everything from bands to businesses on their site. Essentially, they've opened up a channel through which to solicit and promote everyone and everything--most importantly the individual. The whole site is, in essence, a marketing tool that everyone who registers has access to. Users constantly receive spam-like messages from said bands, business, and individuals looking to add more "friends" (and therefore more potential fans, consumers, or witnesses) to their online identity. A testament to this strange new social paradigm is the phrase "Thanks for the Add," a nicety offered when one MySpace user "adds" another as a "friend."

Best yet, to use the site, members must log in, causing them to inadvertently view advertisements, and then read their messages on a page with even more advertisements. In the world of MySpace, spam is earth, air, fire, and water.

Super Publics and the Wisdom of Crowds

As for Brad Greenspan, who had offered his resources and full-fledged support, sought capital for the site. He was superseded by two eUniverse executives situated below him--Brett Brewer and Chris Lipp--who enabled an investment group named Vantage Point to assume a majority of preferred stock in eUniverse through defrauding stockholders. Once Vantage Point was in control, Greenspan was forced out of his position, maintaining 30% of shares in the company at the time, and only held 10% of the company by the time MySpace and Intermix Media (eUniverse) were eventually bought by News Corp. Various other corporate dramas have ensued, including the sale of Intermix Media (formerly eUniverse, and the umbrella company to MySpace) to Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation in a deal that has been described as a cash-out merger as a result of an unfair process and at an unfair price. Somewhat justifying suspicions, Viacom (the company that owns MTV) went on the record stating, "It's fair to say that we had an opportunity to participate in the process [of purchasing MySpace]. We looked closely at MySpace, but didn't fit our financial filters." Further justifying suspicions, The New York Times recently reported that Chris DeWolfe, Tom Anderson, and other MySpace employees now employed by News Corp. received multimillion-dollar bonus payments "to smooth the feelings that were ruffled when Intermix was sold, dragging MySpace along with it against the will of its founders, who received only a small portion of the sale price."

Base business details and corporate scandals aside, the crucial story here is how a site built on a foundation of spam has become one of the most culturally, socially, and technologically influential websites in the history of the Internet. To their credit--and an important key to the site's popularity--the MySpace team has intuitively gone with the flow, treating their users as co-developers (whether by luck or by wisdom), and allowing network effects from user contributions to steer their evolution in many ways--a fundamental difference between both Web 1.0/2.0, and Spam 1.0/2.0.

A social paradigm has shifted with the tipping of MySpace. It's incredible to consider, but Spam--as negative a connotation as it has--has morphed to enable and fuel the massive development of an incredible Super Public. Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe may not even fully recognize the fantastic longitude and latitude at which they stand.

It's no wonder that a site this popular has been a consistent newsmaker, repeatedly finding itself at the center of various controversies. MySpace has become a sort of Super Public portal--entry to a world defined by an ever-changing digital architecture that creates pathways for connection between individuals who might otherwise (even elsewhere on the internet) never have met. In addition to facing accusations of not sufficiently protecting its underage users and subsequently being sued for thereby enabling sexual assault, MySpace has inspired debate over free speech from high school students to porn stars.

What truly remains to be seen is not the repercussions of misleading PR campaigns or bad business deals, but whether MySpace teens will fall victim like Narcissus to the worship and distortion of their own (and others') online reflections, or if they will lead the way in navigating a new world comprised of Super Publics, where old cultures collide, and new cultures are born.

Australian country singer Keith Urban has filed a lawsuit against a US painter of the same name, claiming that the lesser known Keith Urban's website infringes trademark and cyber-squatting laws.

Singer Urban filed the suit in US District Court in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday against the New Jersey painter who uses the website address www.keithurban.com to advertise oil paintings for sale.

The entertainer, who married Australian actor Nicole Kidman last year and who recently ended a stint in rehab for alcohol abuse, says in the lawsuit that the website is being used "in a manner likely to deceive the public into believing that the website has a connection to plaintiff that does not exist".

Urban's own website address is www.keithurban.net.

The singer, 39, wants the other website to be shut down and its domain name transferred to his ownership. He also seeks unspecified monetary damages.

The New Jersey painter could not be reached for comment.

Seven to unleash US shows simultaneously

The Seven Network will air its American hits Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy and What About Brian this month in what will become a bumper Sunday night of programming.

The network will combine the start of entertainment contest Australia's Got Talent at 6.30pm, the comedy Ugly Betty at 7.30pm, and the dramas Grey's Anatomy at 8.30pm and What About Brian at 9.30pm from Sunday, February 18.

This means Seven's biggest weapons for 2007, which include the four biggest new US shows of the past year, will air simultaneously and leave Nine with an uphill battle after the official 2007 ratings period begins this Sunday.

Ugly Betty, What About Brian and Grey's Anatomy join Desperate Housewives, Heroes and Brothers and Sisters, which have already achieved huge ratings numbers for Seven.

Ugly Betty won a Golden Globe last year for best comedy or musical TV series and best actress for its ugly duckling star America Ferrera, while Grey's Anatomy won an award for best TV series drama.

Australia's Got Talent, a contest open to all talents, is less assured of success but is being given every chance on Sunday nights, with host Grant Denyer and judges Dannii Minogue and Red Symons.

Seven is yet to confirm who will be the show's third judge.

Seven's impressive line-up will face competition from Ten's new reality show Celebrity Dog School and the finale of So You Think You Can Dance on February 18 before the return of the Sunday night movie the following week.

The ABC will continue its nature series Planet Earth at 7.30pm followed by the British drama Foyle's War.

However, Nine is yet to announce its permanent Sunday line-up after impressive ratings over the summer with the Australian cricket teams dominance of the Tri-Series against England and New Zealand.

The finals against England will be played on Friday, Sunday and if required, Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Seven also has announced the series six return of its celebrities in sequins hit Dancing With The Stars will be on Tuesday, February 20 at 7.30pm.

Website barred from cashing in on Hilton

A US judge has told a website to stop selling photos, videos, diaries and other items belonging to heiress Paris Hilton that were once kept at a storage facility.

Hilton sued ParisExposed.com last month, saying it exploited her personal belongings, including a reputed bubble bath video, for commercial gain.

The injunction issued on Saturday temporarily bars the website from releasing Hilton's Social Security number, health data and other personal information.

Hilton's spokesman, Elliott Mintz, said he was pleased.

"I know what this has done personally and emotionally to Paris," Mintz said.

"As far as I'm concerned, this is the most disturbing intrusion upon the privacy of a public figure that I've ever witnessed."

The subscription-based website was launched last month and claims to have footage of Hilton in a "sexy bubble bath" video and various shots of the 25-year-old socialite in "racy situations".

Hilton has said she put her possessions in storage two years ago when she and her sister, Nicky, moved out of a house that was robbed.

Her lawsuit alleges that two defendants paid $US2,775 ($A3,590) for the contents at a public auction and sold the items for $US10 million ($A12.94 million) to entrepreneur Bardia Persa, who created the website.

Persa, who could not be reached for comment, is due in court on February 16 to address the injunction.

A London-based record producer launched his bid on Thursday to force US rapper and hip-hop music producer Sean "Diddy" Combs to change his alias or stop using the hugely popular MySpace and YouTube internet sites.

Richard "Diddy" Dearlove says that Combs has breached an earlier undertaking not to use the name "Diddy" in Britain, because people there can see Combs' pages on the international MySpace and YouTube sites were he appears as "Diddy".

"We want him either to use a neutral name like P Diddy or to shut them down," said Iain Purvis, Dearlove's lawyer at the High Court in London where the case is being heard.

Both internet sites have become key marketing platforms for international artists, and Combs' site on www.myspace.com showed that his profile had been visited nearly 10 million times.

Purvis said that in keeping with an earlier agreement, Combs ensured British visitors to his website www.diddy.com were diverted to a British site where the offending name was not used.

first you have to wait untill your 16 then you go for this thing called L's you have to have this for a year then you have to do it for a 100 hours, you have to be in the car with an adult every time and you have to drive in all different driving situations and fill out this massive book of where you went and stuff.

Then once you have doen your 100 hours and you turn 17 you have to go for a massive on road test that goes for like 30 minutes.

Once you pass you get these things called RED P plates, which you ahve to put on your car for 1 year, once you have doen this for a year you then go for another test to these these things called green P platers.

Pamela Rogers pleads guilty to sending nude photos to child sex victim

Former Warren County school teacher Pamela Rogers pleaded guilty this morning to two additional charges accusing her of sending explicit pictures to a 13-year-old boy who she had previously been convicted of having a sexual relationship with.

Rogers, 29, pleaded guilty two counts of solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor for sending nude photos to the boy while she was out of jail on probation.

At the time, she was free after serving about six months of an eight-year sentence.

The photographs led to a revocation of Rogers' probation.

She is being held at the Tennessee Prison for Women.

As a result of her plea, Rogers was sentenced to two additional years for each count. Those sentences will run simultaneously after the conclusion of her eight year sentence.

Rogers will be eligible for parole in 2008 on the eight year sentence. She will have to serve at least 30 percent of the new sentences and her attorney calculated that she could still be released sometime next year.

Under the deal, two additional counts she was facing have been dismissed and Rogers agreed to drop an appeal of her earlier sentence.

Rogers, dressed in a black and white striped prison outfit with her hair pulled back into a pony tail, said nothing aside from responding to the judge. The hearing lasted less than 15 minutes.

De La Hoya hasn't chosen his trainer for what promoters hope will be the best-selling pay-per-view bout ever. It's expected to be the biggest nonheavyweight fight, and the elder Mayweather said he wants his share of a large pie.

"If they want me to work against my son, then they're going to have to pay me," Mayweather Sr. told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "My son and I, no matter what's gone down between us, he's still my blood. Hey, I'd work for Oscar if the deal is right, because that's my job and boxing is just a sport.

"But if you want me to tell you how to beat my son -- and I'm the only one who can tell Oscar how to do that -- then you need to pay me."

Mayweather Sr. said he was offered a $500,000 guarantee and $500,000 if De La Hoya wins, which he called insulting. He said he wants a flat $2 million. De La Hoya is expected to make a guarantee in excess of $20 million and will share in the pay-per-view profits.

Mayweather and his son have feuded since 1999 and rarely speak. The elder Mayweather said he would work for his son if his son asked, though he said he didn't expect it. Mayweather Jr. employs his uncle, Roger Mayweather, as his trainer.

Mayweather Sr. said he has no other disputes with De La Hoya and, if he isn't hired to work this fight, would not rule out working for De La Hoya again in the future.

But he said there's no way he'll accept a flat $1 million, let alone the offer he said De La Hoya made.

"Let him take his million and give it to someone else," Mayweather Sr. said. "It's not like he doesn't have the money to pay me. And this isn't just any fight. And that isn't just any fighter. That's my son in there. Good, bad or indifferent, that's my son."

An aspiring California rapper that shot and killed his promoter who expressed doubt in his talent, was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for first-degree murder two days ago (January 19).
According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Kanyva (born Juston Micheal Potts), shot Shani Renee Holloway, 31, twice in the back of the head at point-blank range in June 2004, as she sat in a car with her boyfriend in Pittsburg, CA.

Investigators revealed that three months before her slaying, Holloway had agreed in a "loose business agreement" to promote Potts' career, but he became resentful after she was negative about his prospects.

On the day of murder, Holloway and her boyfriend gave Potts a ride to a Pittsburg home, where he got out of the car, went over to a sport utility vehicle that had pulled up nearby, then returned with a handgun and shot her.

Potts, 21, who waived a jury trial, had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The judge concluded that he was sane.

As the first black head coaches to make it to the nation's uber sporting event, they couldn't help mentioning how special it was to be there together.

Four hours later, it was a done deal.

"I'm happy for both coaches," Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney said. "I hope we get to the point we don't have to hear about it."

"I'll feel even better to be the first black coach to hold up the world championship trophy," Smith said.

It won't be easy, though, especially the way Peyton Manning and the Colts are playing.

"We've overcome a lot of doubters, but we're here, we made it and it's definitely a great feeling," Jones said.

Whether it was the inconsistent play of quarterback Rex Grossman or the sudden vulnerability of its traditionally tenacious defense, few believed the Bears (15-3) had what it would take to get to Miami.

None of that matters now. Not after the Bears made enough big plays on defense and used a steady running game in the sleet and snow of Chicago to beat the Saints.

"This is why we play the game, to get to the Super Bowl and win," All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher said. "This overshadows everything."

Manning and the Colts (15-4) know the feeling. The All-Everything quarterback from one of football's most talented families had two league MVP titles and a handful of records but never got a shot at a Super Bowl ring — until now.

"It could still be, 'Can he win a Super Bowl?' and then if he does, everyone will shut up," Dungy said.

The Colts are playing in the Super Bowl for the first time since they beat Dallas in 1971, when they were still based in Baltimore. After beating three-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady and the Patriots, Manning has that chance to silence his critics.

"I don't get into monkeys and vindication," he said. "I don't play that card. I know how hard I worked this season, I know how hard I worked this week. It's always nice when you can take the hard work, put it to use and come away with a win."

News has surfaced out of Hollywood this week that a bitch fight is on the verge of erupting between two of the worlds most successful musicians. However usually an occurence connected with women, the latest celebrity stoush is between two men.

The relationship between pop stars Prince and Justin Timberlake has soured greatly in recent weeks, and insiders claim that Timberlake perhaps needs to find a sense of humour.

The U.S. plans to attack Iran in the coming months

Iran plans three days of military maneuvers, including short-range missile tests, beginning Sunday — its first since the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions against it in late December, state-run television said.

"The elite Revolutionary Guards plans to begin a three-day missile maneuver on Sunday near Garmsar city," said the broadcast. The city is located in northern Iran on the edge of Kavir desert, about 60 miles southeast of Tehran.

"Zalzal and Fajr-5 missiles will be test fired in the war game," the television quoted an unnamed commander of the guards, as saying. Both are considered short-range missiles.

Iran conducted three large-scale military exercises last year as tensions with the West and the United States rose.

In November, for example, it test-fired dozens of missiles, including the Shahab-3 that can reach Israel, in military maneuvers that it said were aimed at putting a stop to the role of world powers in the Persian Gulf region.

Sunday's maneuvers are to be the first by Iran since the U.N. Security Council imposed limited sanctions on the country on Dec. 23, banning selling materials and technology that could be used in Iran's nuclear and missile programs and freezing assets abroad of 10 Iranian companies and individuals.

Iran regularly holds large maneuvers, often using them to test weapons developed by its arms industry.

The latest Iranian maneuvers also come just days after the U.S. announced it would deploy a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf, the USS Stennis.

That appeared to have alarmed some in Iran's hard-line leadership. A prominent member of a powerful cleric-run body this week warned that the U.S. plans to attack Iran in the coming months, possibly by striking its nuclear facilities.

The United States has said it is focusing on diplomacy but will not rule out other options.

Washington has accused Iran of backing militants fueling Iraq's violence and has tried to rally its Arab allies in isolating Tehran.

Last year, Iran held three large-scale military exercises. In April, Iran tested what it called an "ultra-horizon" missile, fired from helicopters and jet fighters, and the Fajr-3 missile, which can reportedly evade radar and use multiple warheads to hit several targets simultaneously.

While U.S. officials have suggested that Iran is exaggerating the capabilities of its newly developed weapons, Washington and its allies have been watching the country's progress in missile technology with concern.

In October, the U.S. led maneuvers of its own in the Gulf, focusing on surveillance, with warships tracking a ship suspected of carrying components of illegal weapons.

In December 2005, Israel successfully tested its Arrow missile defense system against a rocket similar to Iran's Shahab-3. The Arrow was developed jointly with the United States.

While the Zalzal is a solid fuel missile, the Fajr-5 missile, from the Persian word meaning dawn, is an artillery rocket developed by Iran in early 2006. It includes a mobile platform and its primary role is to engage land targets, with a range of 50 miles.

Iran has recently urged Arab Gulf nations to kick the U.S. military out of the region and join Iran in a new regional security alliance, an offer mostly ignored by the Gulf states.

Man Survives 17-Floor Fall at Wisconsin Hotel

A Wisconsin man in town for a dart tournament apparently was goofing around Saturday morning at the Minneapolis Hyatt Regency when he crashed through a window and fell 16 stories.

The man, identified in a police report as 29-year-old Joshua S. Hanson, of Blair, Wis., landed on a roof overhang near the hotel's main entrance along Nicollet Mall. His most serious injury was a broken leg.

The man must have "an angel on his shoulder or something," said Minneapolis police Lt. Dale Barsness. "He's a lucky guy."

He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. His condition was not immediately known.

According to the police report, Hanson and two friends were out drinking and returned to the Hyatt about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

They might have been horsing around as they took an elevator to the 17th floor, Barsness said. For some reason, Hanson ran from the elevator and down a short hallway toward a floor-to-ceiling window, he said. He apparently lost his balance and crashed through the glass, landing through the awning of the overhang below.

Rescue crews extricated him from the awning and metal grating while paramedics worked to stabilize him, said Assistant Fire Chief Ulie Seal. He was strapped on a backboard and brought down in a fire truck basket, he said.

"This has never happened before," said Tom Mason, general manager of the Hyatt.

The window was double-paned, and had a safety bar, he said, adding that hotel officials will investigate and "will take whatever steps we have to do to ensure safety."

Bank loses $1.1m to online fraud

Internet fraudsters have stolen around 8m kronor ($1.1m; £576,000) from account holders at Swedish bank Nordea.

The theft, described by Swedish media as the world's biggest online fraud, took place over three months.

The criminals siphoned money from customer's accounts after obtaining login details using a malicious program that claimed to be anti-spam software.

Nordea said it had now refunded the lost money to all 250 customers affected by the scam.

"What is important is that none of our customers will have lost their money," said a bank spokesman.

"We are doing all we can to stop this."

Largest Nordic bank

The attack used a program called a trojan, known as haxdoor.ki, to obtain customers details. Trojans are programs that look benign but contain malicious software.

Victims were duped into downloading the program after receiving an email, purporting to come from the bank, encouraging them to download anti-spam software.

Once installed the trojan monitored the PCs' online activities.

"It listens for key web addresses, in this case the Nordea bank address," said Greg Day, security analyst at McAfee.

When a user navigated to the Nordea bank login page, the trojan would kick into action, saving the customers login details. It then displayed an error message asking them to resend the information.

With two access codes the criminals could transfer money from the customer's accounts.

Trade newspaper Computer Sweden said the police had traced the fraudulent emails first to computer servers in the US and then to Russia.

Nordea added that customers who had been affected often did not have any anti-virus protection on their computers.

The bank, which has 2.2 million customers, is the largest across the four Nordic nations of Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

In August 2005, it was forced to temporarily shut down its online arm due to a sophisticated phishing attack.

Sex Offender Applies for School As a Boy

A charter school alerted authorities to a 29-year-old sex offender who tried to enroll there, pretending he was just 12, in what sheriff's officials said Friday may have been an attempt to lure children into sexual abuse.

The Yavapai County sheriff's office also said Neil Havens Rodreick II conned two men he was living with and having sex with into believing he was a young boy. One of them, 61-year-old Lonnie Stiffler, called himself Rodreick's grandfather when he tried to enroll him at Mingus Springs Charter School as "Casey Price."

"This is the weirdest case I've seen in 18 years," sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Quayle said. "If it wasn't so sad it would be funny."

A total of four men were in custody in the case Friday on various charges, including fraud, forgery, identity theft, and failure to register as a sex offender.

Officials at the charter school in Chino Valley, about 90 miles northwest of Phoenix, told deputies that papers the "grandfather" presented appeared to be fake and that "boy" looked much older than 12.

Stiffler and Robert James Snow, 43, "were very upset when the detectives told them they had been having a sexual relationship with a 29-year-old man and not a pre-teen boy," Quayle said.

Detectives have evidence that Stiffler and Snow enrolled Rodreick in other Arizona schools, and have notified law enforcement in those jurisdictions, Quayle said.

It was unclear whether Rodreick had actually attended any schools, but Quayle said, "I think what we're looking at is that he's being used to troll for other kids."

She said detectives learned in interviews with the men that Rodreick convinced Stiffler and Snow that he was a boy after meeting him two years ago over the Internet. Rodreick apparently shaved his body hair and used makeup to keep up the guise.

Deputies who served a search warrant at a Chino Valley home Thursday found Stiffler, Snow, Rodreick and Brian J. Nellis, 34. Quayle said Nellis was apparently Rodreick's cell mate in an Oklahoma prison, where both served time for sex offenses.

Stiffler was booked on counts of forgery and hindering prosecution and was being held on $100,000 bond. Each of the three others was being held on $50,000 bond on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender. Prosecutors said decisions on any additional charges would be made by Monday.

All four men made initial court appearances Thursday and were assigned public defenders. County Public Defender Janet Lincoln said her office had not seen any reports or met with the men by Friday afternoon and would have no comment.

ATLANTA - Michael Vick reluctantly surrendered a water bottle to security at Miami International Airport that contained a residue “closely associated with marijuana,” police said Wednesday.

The Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback entered a concourse Wednesday morning at the airport with the 20-ounce bottle. He eventually handed it over and boarded his flight to Atlanta. But his initial reluctance to turn over the bottle aroused suspicion among airport security screeners, a police report said.

The bottle was found to have a hidden compartment that contained “a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana,” the report said. The compartment was hidden by the bottle’s label so that it appeared to be a full bottle of water when held upright, police said.

No charges have been filed, but police said the bottle would be sent to a lab for analysis.

Vick did not immediately return a phone call early Thursday.

“We plan to look into the matter and discuss it with Michael Vick before having any further comment,” Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts said.

Kanye West is hard at work on his next album, Graduation, tentatively due in late 2007 via Def Jam. The artist tells Billboard the likely first single from the album will be "Homecoming" featuring Coldplay's Chris Martin, who recently guested on a track from Jay-Z's comeback album, Kingdom Come.

One collaborator from West's 2005 album Late Registration who will be returning for Graduation is multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion.

"We'll be working together again on the new project," West promises. "Jon wasn't just a producer -- he was such a good friend and a great person to bounce ideas off of in the studio. It was the whole experience."

West has also been busy behind the boards, having recently produced tracks for Nas' Hip-Hop Is Dead and The Game's Doctor's Advocate. And, as previously reported, the artist will soon be featured in an HBO series "loosely based" on his life. Curb Your Enthusiasm mastermind Larry Charles will executive produce.

Racism at Virginia Night Club, Aclu sues

The ACLU of Virginia has filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against the owner of Kokoamos Island Bar, Grill and Yacht Club.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Norfolk, challenges the Virginia Beach nightspot's rules of entry that prohibit patrons from wearing dreadlocks, cornrows, twists and braids.

The lawsuit calls the policy discriminatory because it unfairly targets hairstyles predominantly worn by African Americans.
