kissing 19 highly poisonous king cobras thai style
Thailand - A Thai snake charmer kissed 19 highly poisonous king cobras in an attempt to set a world record Saturday.

One by one, the cobras were released onto a stage set up in this Thai beach resort town, as the snake charmer, Khum Chaibuddee, kissed each beast and then moved on to the next.
Four additional snake charmers flanked the stage at each corner and a medical team waited on the sidelines with serum in case one of the snakes snapped, said a statement from Thailand's Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, which organized the event.
The museum's manager, Somporn Naksuetrong, said Ripley's planned to submit the record attempt to the Guinness Book of World Records to overtake a previous record set in 1999 when American Gordon Cates of Alachua, Florida, kissed 11 venomous snakes in 1999.
Khum, a part-time snake charmer for more than 12 years, urged children and onlookers not to try the feat on their own

Google Inc is in talks to buy popular Web video site YouTube Inc. for close to $1.6 billion
The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing a person familiar with the matter. According to the newspaper, the talks are at a sensitive stage and could break off.
Representatives for Google and YouTube were not immediately available for comment. Separately, Internet blog TechCrunch.com talked of what it called a completely unsubstantiated rumor of talks between Google and YouTube.
YouTube has quickly ascended to the rank of top Internet video site since it was founded in February 2005 by letting users share homemade video clips.
The site has been a subject of buyout speculation for months since its Chief Executive Chad Hurley was the toast of Allen & Co.'s media mogul retreat in July. Hurley has said in interviews with Reuters and elsewhere that the company was not up for sale.
The site reports serving about 100 million videos daily and has attracted scrutiny from major media companies for pirated versions of copyrighted entertainment appearing on its pages

Nas Says How He Feels About 50 Cent’s Mixtape, New Album, Tour With
Where do we start with Nas — he has a lot going on. Last week, he jumped onstage with Jay-Z in London and said he might join Hov for more stops on the Global Express Tour. "There are some conversations me and Jay are having about doing some more tour dates," Nas said last week in the U.K. the day before taking the stage at Royal Albert Hall. "Nothing is confirmed, but there are some serious conversations about Africa and a few other countries.
"I would like to do the Africa thing," he continued. "And that would be about it, because it’s the most important thing for Africans to see two African-Americans, their lost children, who’s been the head of hip-hop culture.
A lot of our verses are misinterpreted in other countries, and they get the N-word wrong and they don’t understand why we come up like this and why we say the things we say. So when they say it and when they do it, they just doing the gangsta mentality. They don’t understand where it comes from, so we want to bring that connection from America to Africa and show them what we mean and show the brotherhood and show that me and this brother is about peace."
Nas’ peaceful mindset has changed his perspective on some things recently. While some people raised an eyebrow when 50 Cent named a recent mixtape Hip-Hop Is Dead because it’s the same title as Nas’ upcoming official LP, God’s Son said it didn’t bother him.
"Honestly, I’ve always been the kind of guy to come back in and set the tone and wake people up," he said. "I do realize that, and it’s sometimes a conscious decision for me to do that and sometimes it’s just what I do. So when artists take a mixtape, like 50 Cent is doing Hip-Hop Is Dead, I think that’s cool because it’s definitely him in agreeance with me. I think the whole rap game is in agreeance with me to some point. I think it’s real cool, but my album is the real thing."
Nas’ Hip-Hop Is Dead … The N is supposed to come out in December. He’s still working but said we’ll be hearing a couple of songs from the album really soon.
"It’s probably gonna be a street look," he said. "There’s a nice street look I got right now. It’s between two songs I’m trying to choose from — [one is] tentatively titled ‘New York Stomp’ and ‘QB True G’ is the other one — and there will be a main record that’s more mainstream."
Nas is also making the rounds with guest appearances. He’s on a remix of LeToya’s "She Can’t," Hi-Tek’s "Music for Life" and Diddy’s "Everything I Love," all of which are out now

N.Y. rapper, others charged in deadly heist
A small-time rapper is charged with robbing two Miami men and killing one in a New Jersey hotel.

A small-time New York rapper was charged with robbing two Miami men and killing one of them in a New Jersey hotel room.
The 28-year-old rapper, known as Charly ''Max B'' Wingate, is accused of masterminding a plot to rob Allan Plowden and his friend, David Taylor, both of Miami.
Wingate was charged Friday with felony murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. He faces life in prison if convicted on all counts.
Bergen County prosecutor John Molinelli said Wingate and his accomplices, who included a hooker girlfriend and a gunman, were unaware that another group of would-be thieves -- two hookers and two car sound system workers -- had plans to rob the South Florida men.
Two weeks ago Plowden, 41, and Taylor, 29, went from Miami to Fort Lee, N.J., apparently looking to upgrade their Mercedes-Benz and BMW with sound systems.
They met with Julio Cruz, 27, and Edward Blancaneaux, 30, both of the Bronx, about the work.
But the Bronx men had observed Plowden and Taylor spending tons of money at a Bronx topless bar called Sin City, the prosecutor said.
At one point, Cruz arranged a meeting with Plowden and a former employee of Sin City, Gina Maria Conway, 29, a prostitute from the Bronx.
Cruz and Blancaneaux cooked up a plot to rob Plowden and Taylor, and hired two other prostitutes, Maite Castro, 23, and Gisselle Nieves, 24, Molinelli said.
''They asked Nieves and Castro to soften them up, make them loose and let their guard down,'' Molinelli said.
But unbeknownst to the would-be robbers, Conway was scheming to rob Plowden and Taylor as well, and contacted her rapper boyfriend, Wingate, to help, according to Molinelli.
Around 3 a.m. Sept. 22, at a Holiday Inn in Fort Lee, Conway and an accomplice of Wingate, Kelvin Leerdam of New York, knocked on Plowden's door, authorities said.
''At that time Mr. Leerdam held a gun to Mr. Plowden and Ms. Nieves,'' Molinelli said. The woman was duct-taped and put in the bathroom.
After Plowden said he did not have cash, he was ordered to call his partner, Taylor. When Taylor entered the room, Leerdam shot him in the head, authorities said.
Cruz and Blancaneaux never got a chance to carry their scheme out.
The robbers stole $800 and a watch, leaving without $30,000 in cash that the Miami men had stashed.
Wingate was charged with felony murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Leerdam and Conway were charged with murder, felony murder and robbery. Plowden was charged with money laundering and possession of identity theft equipment.
Castro, Nieves, Cruz and Blancaneaux were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Online Gambling Bill Passed in House
"The Washington Post is reporting that the House passed a measure that makes it illegal for banks in the US to handle online gambling transactions." There's still no such move in the Senate, but it's a step towards banning online gambling nonetheless. Since this bill isn't expected to affect the usual, legal ways of gambling domestically, one wonders if such legislation would be sought after, were online gambling to be headquartered here in the states, rather than overseas.

Hollywood's Latest Weapon - DVD Sniffing Dogs
WASHINGTON — Hollywood's newest stars are perfectly happy to go straight to DVD.
And Hollywood is perfectly happy to go to the dogs.
ADVERTISEMENTOn Tuesday, the Motion Picture Assn. of America showed off Lucky and Flo, a pair of playful, 2-year-old black Labrador retrievers with noses trained to zero in on DVDs, including the pirated kind.
During a briefing at the MPAA's headquarters, Lucky and Flo took turns sniffing out DVDs hidden in a box.
"They tend to be cheaper than most employees and they don't demand raises all the time," said John Malcolm, the MPAA's director of worldwide anti-piracy operations.
Still, the first ever DVD-sniffing dogs didn't come that cheap. The MPAA spent about $9,000 on each to train them over eight months. But the group said that was a small price compared with losses from pirated DVDs, estimated by the industry at $11.1 billion in 2005.
MPAA Chief Executive Dan Glickman gave the go-ahead for the project. As Agriculture secretary in the 1990s, he had seen the success of the department's "Beagle Brigade" in identifying prohibited foods at U.S. borders.
It turns out that DVDs also have a unique smell — not just the ones that were stinkers at the box office — probably from the resins and polycarbonates used to produce the discs.
"There is a scent that comes off the DVD that the dog is absolutely dead-set on finding," said Neil Powell, a Northern Ireland sniffer dog expert who trained Lucky and Flo. If there's a scent — whether it's from DVDs, drugs or explosives — a dog can be trained to sniff it out.
Lucky and Flo can't distinguish between legitimate and bootleg DVDs, but customs officials can identify smugglers by checking the declarations for the packages that the dogs point out, Malcolm said.
The dogs aren't actually sniffing out DVDs in a real-world setting, just showing it's possible. The MPAA, which hopes to loan them to customs officials or private shipping firms, is taking its dog show on the road, to Los Angeles, Mexico, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai and Britain.
The world tour even has a Hollywood touch: commemorative "Lucky & Flo K-9 Pirate Smackdown" T-shirts.

SWAT team officer shoot a cop killer 68 times
Accused of killing deputy, suspect shot 68 times
‘We would have shot him more,’ sheriff says of SWAT team’s actions
Updated: 2 hours, 17 minutes ago
MIAMI - A fugitive gunman accused of killing a Florida sheriff’s deputy was shot 68 times by SWAT team officers who found him hiding in the woods, according to autopsy results.
Police fired 110 shots at Angilo Freeland, 27, the target of a massive manhunt in central Florida following the shooting death of Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Williams Thursday.
“That’s all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel newspaper.
Judd said Williams was “executed” after Freeland was pulled over in a routine traffic stop on Thursday. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.
Williams, 39, was shot eight times—one bullet fired at close range behind the deputy’s right ear and another in his right temple, according to autopsy results released on Saturday by the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s officials said SWAT team members found Freeland on Friday hiding under a fallen oak tree in a wooded area near where the deputies were shot, and began firing when they saw a gun in his hand.
