WYCLEF JEAN’S ASSOCIATE HOME SAFELY AFTER KIDNAPPING

When Wyclef Jean returned to his homeland of Haiti to perform some good deeds last month, it seems that not everyone was grateful. On Nov. 30, while Clef was playing Santa to 600 children at his Telemax studios, gunmen abducted one of the network’s news producers, Bidthlerson Brutus, and held him for a $250,000 ransom. Brutus was held captive for three days before being released; the ransom was never paid. One of the captors, who called himself The Commander, told SOS Journalistes-Haiti, “We freed the journalist after considering how much effort Wyclef is doing to help our sisters and brothers in the forgotten ghettos.” Wyclef told The New York Daily News that he believed the kidnapping was related to several layoffs he made after purchasing the station earlier this year. “I think it was a person who felt hatred…I’m just happy that Mr. Brutus is home alive.”

DREAMGIRLS CAST AND FILM GET GOLDEN GLOBE NODS

Although it has yet to hit theatres, the big screen production of Dreamgirls has already impressed the folks over at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA.) The production racked up several nominations for the Association’s Golden Globe Awards. Beyoncé nabbed a Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy nomination, while co-star Jennifer Hudson earned a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. Eddie Murphy, who plays a soul singer on the decline, earned a Supporting Actor nomination. “I’m overwhelmed right now. I just started screaming when they said the names,” Hudson said during an appearance on the “Today” show shortly after the nominations were announced. Rapper-turned-actor Will Smith received a nomination for Best Actor in a Movie Drama for his role in The Pursuit of Happyness, which hits theaters this Friday. Dreamgirls arrives in theaters Dec. 25.

Xbox Live Gold members battled it out with the St. Louis-bred rapper in “Project Gotham Racing 3” today between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. (ET) under the gamertag “ChingyGWF.” “Getting loose on Xbox Live allows me to show my appreciation for where I come from and who supports me.
