Some of the T-shirts bear only the date: 01.20.09. The others spell it out: "Bush's Last Day."
But both, along with an assortment of "Bush's Last Day" caps, mugs, bumper stickers, buttons, and other collectibles are seeing strong sales as politically minded U.S. gift givers stock up for this holiday season.
One of the most popular items is a pocket-sized clock that counts down the minutes -- and yes, seconds -- left in President George W. Bush's final term in office.
"We're close to selling a million pieces of assorted stuff. We'll hit that this Christmas season," said Elliott Nachwalter, 56, of Arlington, Vermont, who started the business about 18 months ago out of the back of his fly fishing store.
Nachwalter said Bush's Last Day was founded after outrage at the president' environmental policies spurred him to design a lapel button and then a bumper sticker that he shared with a few friends.
The message is aimed at expressing frustration with, and opposition to, Bush's policies on the environment, the war in Iraq and an assortment of domestic issues, he said.
Nachwalter's business has grown from an online-only storefront to distribution through more than 300 retailers from California to the nation's capital in Washington. Business has picked up substantially since the mid-term elections, which showed Bush to be out of favour with a majority of Americans.
Diana Graham, of Overland Park, Kansas, who voted for George Bush in both 2000 and 2004 is one such customer, buying a Bush's Last Day hat this week as a gift for her mother.
"She despises Bush so much," said Graham. "His last day - she is so looking forward to it."
