A RUNAWAY Philippine maid in the Gulf emirate of Kuwait was abducted and gang-raped by 17 men in desert camps, a newspaper reported today, adding that 14 suspects were in custody.
Four men found the the Filipino woman after she fled her employer's house and took her to a desert camp where they raped her, the Al-Watan daily said, citing a security source.
They then offered the maid to six of their friends who raped her at a second camp before delivering her to seven others who gang-raped her at a third camp.
She was taken to hospital by Philippine consular officials, the paper said. The embassy was not immediately available for comment.
Police have detained 14 suspects so far - 13 Kuwaitis and one Iraqi, Al-Watan said. A manhunt is continuing for three other Kuwaitis.
More than 70,000 Filipinos live and work in oil-rich Kuwait, many of them as domestic servants.
